Product Overview

This semi-automatic machine fills aluminum tubes and closes their open tails by mechanical folding and crimping. Operators place empty tubes into the holders; the machine then carries out the processing sequence.

A photoelectric mark sensor and mechanical positioning system orient the tube before filling. The single pneumatic piston filling head dispenses product from a 40 L hopper, followed by the selected three-fold or four-fold tail-closing operation and integrated embossing.

For toothpaste and oral care packaging, the tube specification, fill quantity and required folded-tail finish are assessed together. The same approach applies to compatible cosmetic creams, ointments and adhesive formulations.

The filling range is 5–300 mL, with a rated speed of 25–30 tubes per minute. Suitable slurries and pastes can be assessed up to 50,000 cP; higher-viscosity duties require a customized configuration.

The standard hopper is single-layer. Heating and agitation are optional, as are external replenishment pumps. Each filling cycle handles one product component. The machine does not meter and mix two-part adhesives.

Machine Configuration

A 16-holder rotary table presents aluminum tubes to the orientation, filling and tail-closing stations. Operators load empty tubes manually, while a photoelectric mark sensor and mechanical positioning system establish their orientation.

The filling section comprises a 40 L single-layer hopper, one pneumatic piston filling head and an anti-drip nozzle. Optional hopper heating and agitation support products that need additional conditioning during filling.

The closing section uses aluminum-tube folding and crimping tooling, with three-fold or four-fold configurations available. Integrated embossing provides the standard coding method. Inkjet or laser coding can be selected separately.

Panasonic PLC control and a push-button interface manage the supplied functions. Schneider electrical components form part of the specified configuration. Pneumatic components are selected for the order.

A SUS304 stainless steel frame supports the machine, with SUS316L stainless steel wetted components in the product pathway.

Working Principle

Prepared product is placed in the 40 L hopper. Operators load compatible aluminum tubes into the rotary holders, leaving the open tails accessible for filling and closing.

The table indexes the tubes through the processing stations. A photoelectric sensor reads the tube’s registration mark, and the positioning arrangement establishes the required orientation.

The pneumatic piston filling system draws product from the hopper and dispenses the selected quantity through the single nozzle. The anti-drip arrangement controls product cut-off at the end of filling.

The filled tube moves to the mechanical closing section. Tooling forms the specified three-fold or four-fold tail and crimps it into the required finished shape. Integrated embossing applies the selected code through the supplied arrangement.

The machine completes the tube-processing sequence while the operator continues presenting empty tubes at the loading position. Production pace depends on the product, quantity, tube format and loading conditions.

Optional heating or agitation maintains the product condition required for filling. External replenishment equipment can supply the hopper where included in the configuration.

Before routine production, representative tubes are checked for orientation, quantity, folded-tail condition and code readability. A change in tube or formulation requires the corresponding setup and acceptance checks.

🔧 Common Problems

Possible operating symptoms include variation in filled quantity, product trailing after dispensing, residue in the tail-closing area or inconsistent product supply from the hopper. Tubes may sit unevenly in holders, orient differently from the intended artwork position or move irregularly through the rotary sequence. Closing-related observations include uneven folds, damaged tails, an inconsistent finished shape or an unacceptable result during package checks. Embossed characters may appear faint, displaced or incomplete. Operators may also observe repeated sensing messages, irregular pneumatic movement or interruptions in the processing sequence. During changeover, residue, color or adhesive material may remain in the product pathway. Record the product, quantity, tube format, selected fold and affected station when investigating an observation.

Technical Buyer's Handbook & Deep Insight

Where the Rotary Aluminum Tube Filling and Folding Machine Fits

This model suits production that needs aluminum-tube filling and folded-tail closing while retaining manual tube loading. Its defining arrangement combines 16 rotary holders, one pneumatic piston filling head, mark orientation and mechanical folding.

The machine is rated at 25–30 tubes per minute. The useful operating pace depends on the formulation, fill quantity, tube format and the operator’s loading task.

It is a different equipment choice from a soft-tube heat sealer. The tube material and required closure should lead the selection.

Choose Aluminum Folding or Plastic-Tube Heat Sealing

The automatic hot-air plastic and laminate tube filler uses a different closing approach.

Selection pointThis aluminum-tube machinePlastic and laminate heat-sealing alternative
Tube constructionCompatible aluminum tubesCompatible plastic or laminate tubes
Tail closureMechanical folding and crimpingHot-air heat sealing
Loading on this modelManual placement into rotary holdersReview the selected machine’s feeding scope
Key acceptance requirementSpecified fold and completed metal-tube packageSpecified heat seal and finished soft-tube package

The aluminum, plastic and laminate tube equipment guide provides a broader comparison. A change in tube material may require different closing equipment, not a routine setting adjustment.

Define the Three-Fold or Four-Fold Tail

Both folding arrangements can be provided. Specify the required finished tail with the tube supplier and packaging requirements before choosing the tooling.

Review the tube construction and the space available above the product. A closing method that works with one tube should not automatically be assigned to another nominally similar package.

The purchase scope should identify the supplied folding arrangement and any conversion parts needed. Three-fold and four-fold availability does not mean the machine changes between them without setup work.

Match Tube Holders and Printed Orientation

The 16 holders support tubes as they move through the rotary sequence. Their fit should suit the tube body and supplied condition.

Photoelectric mark sensing and mechanical positioning establish orientation. Provide printed production samples with the intended registration feature, artwork and cap.

Check the relationship between the printed front face, folded tail and embossed code during the trial. Orientation is a package-specific requirement rather than a universal appearance setting.

When changing diameter or length, identify the holder parts, nozzle position and closing adjustments required. The specified envelope of 10–50 mm diameter and 50–250 mm length is a format range, not one fixed setup.

Plan the Fill Around Tail-Closing Space

The 5–300 mL filling range must be considered alongside the tube and folded-tail construction. Nominal tube capacity is not the same as an approved production fill.

Agree the intended product quantity and leave the space needed for the selected closing operation. Inspect the tail area after dispensing so the closing trial represents the actual production condition.

The filling accuracy testing guide provides measurement context for the ±0.5% specification. Filled quantity and tail closure should have separate acceptance checks.

Assess the Paste and Its Feeding Behavior

The pneumatic piston system handles one product component per filling cycle. Suitable products may include toothpaste, cosmetic creams, ointments and individual adhesive components.

Review the actual viscosity conditions, product stability and behavior through the filling valve and nozzle. The 50,000 cP application limit should be assessed with the formulation rather than used as the only selection criterion.

For adhesive applications, identify curing behavior, cleaning constraints and permitted holding conditions. Filling an individual AB-glue component is different from proportioning and mixing two components.

Higher-viscosity work requires a customized review. It should not be treated as a guaranteed extension of the standard machine.

Select Hopper Conditioning and Replenishment Separately

The standard hopper is a 40 L single-layer vessel. Heating and agitation are optional where the formulation needs those functions during holding and filling.

The heating and mixing filling guide provides related configuration considerations.

External replenishment is another separate choice. A portable rotary lobe transfer pump is one equipment direction to assess alongside diaphragm or piston feeding options.

The chosen pump must suit the product and hopper supply conditions. Its function is replenishment, not the machine’s filling measurement.

Choose Coding Around the Finished Aluminum Tail

Integrated embossing provides the standard coding arrangement. Agree the characters, position and readability requirement using the actual folded package.

Inkjet or laser coding can be selected where the marking task calls for another method. Related coding equipment should be assessed against the tube surface and required presentation.

Keep coding acceptance separate from filling and closing. A readable code does not establish an acceptable fold, and a satisfactory fold does not establish that the date is correct.

Include Manual Loading in the Production Schedule

The operator places empty tubes into the holders while the machine completes the processing sequence. Empty-tube supply and access to the loading position therefore influence sustained output.

Include product replenishment, checks and finished-tube handling when planning staffing. The 16 holders do not represent 16 filling heads; this machine has one filling head.

For frequent short runs, cleaning and format conversion may occupy a significant share of available production time. Compare the whole operating schedule rather than nominal speed alone.

Plan Cleaning for Creams and Adhesive Components

The hopper, piston filling assembly, connections and nozzle form the product pathway. Folding and coding tooling require their own cleaning and inspection arrangements.

The guide to cleaning dead corners in process equipment provides supporting access considerations. The actual product and component instructions determine the permitted cleaning method.

For curing adhesives, plan product recovery and cleaning around the material’s permitted working conditions. A general paste-filling capability does not establish compatibility with every reactive product.

Connect Finished Tubes to Secondary Packaging

Filled aluminum tubes need a handling arrangement that protects the completed fold and presents the package correctly to the next operation.

Related cartoning machines can be assessed where cartons form part of the package. Transfer and orientation requirements depend on the actual tube and packing arrangement.

Include holders, folding tooling, coding parts and service access in the ownership comparison. The machinery total cost of ownership guide provides a broader framework.

Prepare the Purchase Specification

  • Provide the aluminum tube specification and printed samples.
  • Select three-fold or four-fold tail closing.
  • Define the target quantity within the 5–300 mL range.
  • Describe the product, viscosity conditions and any curing behavior.
  • Confirm the required tube holders and format parts.
  • Select hopper heating and agitation where needed.
  • Define any optional external replenishment equipment.
  • Agree fill, fold, orientation and code acceptance checks.
  • Plan tube loading, cleaning and finished-package handling.

StriversMachinery manufactures core processing equipment in-house and works with long-term partner manufacturers for complementary equipment. The tube-packaging configuration is selected around the actual formulation, aluminum tube and finished-package requirement.
